Here we shall list and make known henceforth the list of Films that are of the highest caliber. Here we shall discuss these films of majesty. Seriously, discuss the movies that you think are the best in all forms. I don't want just the movies that are nostalgic or the movies that are the easy to enjoy. I want the movies that are world changing and timeless.
I can start the list with a movie that is not only among the technical greats but also my personal favorite, "The Godfather".

I have not seen the Godfather in ages. Should I really watch it again? Everyone says it's among the greats, but my favorite movie is Nemesis, if that says anything.

We just rewatched the Godfather a few days ago, Digi. It's just as good as I remembered. You should go for it.

I think I will:) Star Trek the Next Generation: Nemesis is the greatest film ever made, IMO.

Godfather films are good. I can't watch them again because they're still boring as hell. Then again, I don't watch tv/movies often.

Jivan, I think I have to disagree. This is just a mater of taste but I cannot say The Godfather films are boring. Sure, they are not all action all the time, but the story building there is not only top notch, but it is also very well paced.

The character development in the Godfather films is just fantastic. There are no special effects or slow-motion action scenes to get you pumped, but that's probably a good thing. The world needs more films with the depth that the Godfather offers. Other films of this caliber: The Boondock Saints The Shawshank Redemption Winter's Bone The Lion King

I have never heard of Winter's Bone.
Here are my opinions of what the greatest films ever made are: Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan Star Trek: The Voyage Home Star Trek: Undiscovered Country Star Trek The Next Generation: Insurrection Star Trek The Next Generation: First Contact Star Trek The Next Generation: Nemesis Star Trek (2009) Into Darkness
Now that that's out of the way: Eastern Promises is one hell of a movie. Def my favorite movie outside of Star Trek. I would hope comparing it in greatness to the Godfather is appropriate.

My favorite movie is The Sunset Limited.
My dislike of the Godfather films probably comes from my immense hate of all things mafia or mob based.

Never heard of the Sunset Limited, but I'll look into it. The Godfather isn't just a mob movie, it's a great piece of film. The characterization is off the chain.

I didn't say The Godfather wasn't a fantastic film. I just can't watch it casually because while the characters are great the movie itself is rather boring to watch for the sake of entertainment. I Think it's a great movie in a clinical sense, not an emotional one.

I Think it's a great movie in a clinical sense, not an emotional one. Saying the Godfather isn't an emotional movie is not even close to accurate. If you truly think that than I would have to assume you haven't actually watched them. There are several deeply emotionally complex characters. namely Michael and Kay. In the second movie when she talks about the *Spoiler Alert* abortion. The look behind Michael's eyes should have gotten him the Oscar. Seeing the complexity of his emotional change at this point is not only beautifully done but also relatable and heart wrenching. Furthermore Michael's interactions with Freddo in both of the first two films is incredibly dynamic and interesting. Watching Michael develop from the war hero at the beginning to a man willing to *Spoiler Alert* kill his own brother over a betrayal is one of the most emotional journeys in modern cinema. The most interesting part about Michael is that he goes from a clean cut Ivy League student to a mafia boss. At every step in his path he never says that he wants to be evil. Every choice he makes is to protect himself and his family. At every milestone he makes the human and relatable choice. The reason Michael is interesting is because he never wanted to be evil. He never wanted to be a don. He was supposed to be a Governor or a Senator. He was meant to be a man in legitimate power. He had his future forged for him out of necessity and a willingness to serve those close to him. He made the choice any one would have made. He was just a man, who became a monster.

Discussing film in any sort of an emotional manner is giving into madness. We can quite honestly break down Thomas the Tank engine films and make them sound like masterpieces. Am I saying the Godfather films (not the third) are bad? Of course fucking not. But they are hollow to me. I see the acting but I don't feel it. I may be biased though, after all I don't believe in art. Also, saying "I'm going to assume you are ignorant of the topic because you disagree with me" makes you look like an asshole as well as someone who has no idea how to have a debate. If you didn't want to hear other opinions you shouldn't have started a thread on an open forum.
